How Henry Kravis of Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. Works in Conjunction with the Environmental Defense Fund

Initially, when Henry Kravis and George Roberts set up Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co (KKR) in 1976 with the assistance of the First Chicago Corporation, their focus was in bootstrap buyouts. But they have assembled an innovative green project which concentrates not merely on ramping up their profit margins, but in addition on how environmentally friendly each of the firms in their portfolio are.

Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co’s Henry Kravis and the New York based Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) joined forces in 2008, with the goal of making environmentally sound business practices an acknowledged principle. These companies intended to fight critical environmental matters, for example deforestation, toxic emissions, excessive consumption of water resources, and depletion of the ozone layer.

Eco-efficiency (the phrase was first popularized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development) is the routine employed to achieve these goals, applying green techniques such as recycling programs, reducing the waste of resources and reducing the intensity of materials. Although the project was a huge success, staff just didn’t understand how fantastic the consequences actually were until Ken Mehlman, the head of the project and global public affairs, examined the figures for the first year. Factually knocking off all expectations, Ken learned that this program not only raised environmental responsibility, but also increased the profits from every business besides. Up to now, Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co and Ken Mehlman have succeeded in getting nearly every last firm in their portfolio engaged in the Green Portfolio Project. And, when you consider that the group has a 2009 business portfolio with an estimated worth of eighty six billion dollars, you can be certain that this wasn’t a simple feat. The two groups in association with Ken Mehlman are further expanding the Green Portfolio project. The Climate Corps Program administered by the EDF is one of these initiatives, it advances eco-efficient business techniques to interns taking an MBA.

KKR and Ken Mehlman have made the effort to formulate a variety of analytical tools that can measure and administer various resources. This type of information is critical as businesses may without very much effort assess their day-to-day activities and find out where any problems can be solved while simultaneously tracking their progress.

Today’s business world has been revolutionized by the efforts of Henry Kravis, the KKC, and the Environmental Defense Fund. Their innovations have simplified the procedure for firms in every sector and proved that making profits need not entail the hefty price of negatively impacting our planet.
