Hazardous Foods
We have covered a lot of information about the proper diet for your sugar glider. What we have not covered yet is the possible harm of feeding them the wrong foods. You can use basic information from previous pets as well as these basic guidelines.
Chocolate is a big danger food. Just like dogs, your gliders do not have the ability to digest this incredible sweet properly. As you know by now, your glider has an incredible sweet tooth, so they will dive right in without even thinking about how harmful it may be. The best idea is to keep them away from chocolate all together.
You will also need to know that no gliders can handle dairy products. Their bodies just cannot handle the lactose in these foods. People have different theories on this, but no one has yet to prove that dairy products are a hundred percent safe. So, for the safety of your pocket pet, be sure to avoid cheese, ice cream, milk, and other dairy bi-products.
You also want to stay away from certain types of vegetables as well. How do you know what kind of vegetables to avoid? Well, there are two main rules when thinking about this question. These two rules are if the vegetable was grown with pesticides, you want to avoid them. Pesticides can be poisonous and harmful to your friend. You also want to stay away from any kind of vegetable that is difficult to clean. If you cannot wash it completely it is safer to avoid it. You want to make sure all the vegetables that your glider ingests are a hundred percent organic and grown properly. If you really want to get on your glider’s good side, you can serve him up some nice juicy melon. Gliders go crazy for anything in the melon family, but you still have to serve it in moderation.
