A Cheap Way to Get Yourself to New York

JFK is the largest of the three New York City airports, and it handles by far the most international traffic as well. Finding cheap flights to JFK can be surprisingly easy because competition among airlines is fierce and literally almost every carrier you’ve ever heard of flies into the city.

The best way to get a cheap flight is to go to Kayak.com or Sidestep.com, which are basically identical sites, and then enter your departure city and travel dates. For the destination airport use the code NYC, which will check all three airports at the same time. Often JFK is the cheapest, and in many cases it will be your only option, but sometimes you can save a bunch of money by flying in to LaGuardia or Newark International. Friday and Sunday flights tend to be the most expensive, so if you can fly in the middle of the week you can often get the cheapest flights near the last minute.

All three airports are a bit of a hassle to get into Manhattan from, but JFK is the easiest because of the new AirTrain that will get you from the airport to Penn Station in Manhattan for $10 in only about 30 minutes.
